About us

The Urogynaecology Unit offers assessment and treatment of women with a wide range of pelvic floor and lower urinary tract problems. We provide specialist treatment (both conservative and surgical) for conditions such as:

  • Vaginal prolapse
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Overactive bladder
  • Recurrent urinary tract infections
  • Painful bladder syndrome
  • Difficulty passing urine
  • Problems following childbirth

The unit has a multi-disciplinary team approach to patient care. The clinical team is consultant led with two Sub-Specialist Consultants in Urogynaecology, two Urogynaecology Nurse Specialists, Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapists and a dedicated administration team. We work closely together to ensure an holistic approach to care, holding weekly multi-disciplinary team (MDT) meetings and monthly MDT meetings with other specialist departments within the Trust including urology, colorectal, geriatrics and the community continence teams. We also work closely with the maternity department supporting women during and after childbirth.

We are actively involved in research, operate within national guidelines (including NICE and BSUG) and adopt the latest evidence-base practice with all aspects of Urogynaecology. We offer a full range of diagnostic investigations including video, ambulatory and standard urodynamic investigations, endo-anal ultrasound scanning, outpatient cystoscopy and bladder scanning.

Surgical interventions for treatment of incontinence and prolapse include Botox injections, urethral bulking agents, vaginal and laparoscopic prolapse repair, as well as complex prolapse surgery.
