About us
We provide the following diabetes, endocrinology and renal services at Kingston Hospital:
Diabetes
- Preconception and antenatal care, clinic delivered jointly with obstetrics team
- Clinic for people with type 1 diabetes
- Clinic for young people with type 1 diabetes and transition type 1 diabetes clinic, delivered jointly with paediatrics team
- Insulin pump clinic
- Diabetes foot clinic
- Renal diabetes clinic, delivered jointly with renal clinicians
- Complex type 2 diabetes clinic
- Diabetes specialist nurse and dietitian clinics
- Structured education for type 1 diabetes: dose adjustment for normal eating (DAFNE) for people taking multiple daily injections and insulin pump
- Inpatient diabetes service
- Psychology support for complex patients with type 1 diabetes. This is currently provided by iCope in Kingston.
Endocrinology
We cover a wide range of endocrine conditions involving adrenal, thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, reproductive system, and late effects service for cancer survivors within our general endocrinology clinics.
We provide services to patients staying at the hospital with any endocrinology related issues.
We provide radioiodine therapy for benign thyroid disorders, and support the thyroid nodule service provided by the Ear, Nose and Throat service.
We have in-house multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss thyroid/parathyroid and adrenal cases with specialist radiologists, surgeons and pathologists. We work closely with the endocrinology team at St George’s Hospital for our pituitary patients and liaise with all regional tertiary services for any complex conditions.
Renal
We hold a variety of weekly clinics, including:
- Monday afternoon – Advanced Kidney Care Clinic
- Tuesday afternoon (once a month) – Joint Renal/Diabetes Clinic
- Wednesday afternoon – Nephrology clinic
- Friday afternoon – Nephrology clinics
