Consultant in Respiratory & Internal Medicine Physician

Dr Siva Mahendran is a Consultant Physician in Respiratory & Internal Medicine and has worked at Kingston Hospital since 2017. He see’s patients with all respiratory related symptoms and provides clinical leadership in Asthma, Pleural Disease and Respiratory Research.

Dr Mahendran is the Trust Chair for Medicines Management and has overseen numerous patient safety reviews. He has led on trust-wide quality improvement programs and has won awards for service improvement.

Dr Mahendran qualified at University College London, where he completed a BSc in Anatomy & Developmental Sciences before completing his undergraduate degree in Medicine. He completed post-graduate training at some of London’s leading hospitals for Respiratory medicine including the Royal Brompton, Guys and St Thomas' and Kings College Hospitals.

As part of Dr Mahendran’s training in Respiratory Medicine, he completed scientific research in COPD and Asthma which led to a PhD in Respiratory Immunology at King’s College London. He has been a lead researcher in both in early and late-phase clinical trials of the latest medicines and used this experience to lead Kingston’s participation in the ground-breaking Covid-19 Recovery trial, whilst also providing expert guidance through the pandemic to clinical teams and guideline committees.

Dr Mahendran has been a continuous member of both British and European societies since 2009. He has advanced training in both bronchoscopy and ultrasound guided pleural procedures. He is a well-regarded educator to both resident doctors and health care professionals alike and an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians.
