What a free-standing toilet frame is for

A free standing toilet frame helps you to get on and off the toilet more easily.

Do not use a free-standing toilet frame:

  • if you have not been assessed as needing one
  • if you are weak on one side or lean heavily to one side as the frame may tip over
  • if you need to be moved into place and cannot sit on the toilet seat independently
  • if there is uneven or weak flooring
  • if your arms or upper body are weak
  • if the legs of the toilet frame will create a trip hazard
  • if there is not enough space or if the toilet piping makes its use unsafe.

How to fit one

  1. When you first receive the equipment; check that it is not damaged, that all 4 leg clips are intact and the ferrules (rubber feet) of the equipment are fitted correctly.
  2. Ensure the crossbar is placed at the front of toilet bowl and not behind it.
  3. Height should be adjusted correctly by changing height of legs. The frame should sit approximately at elbow height.
  4. Ensure the user can sit with feet flat on the floor with hips at 90°â€‹.
  5. Ensure all four feet of the frame are flat on the floor.
  6. Ensure there are four ferrules and that they are not worn down. And ensure four clips are correctly in place.
