What a bed raiser is for
A bed raiser can make it easier for you to get on and off your bed.
Do not use a bed raiser:
- if you have not been assessed as needing one
- on uneven or weak flooring
- when there are missing bed legs or castors
- on riser recliners or hospital-type electric or profiling beds which allow you to raise and lower head or foot sections
- if the bed is likely to move when you get in or out, or when you sit on the edge of the bed.
How to fit bed raisers
- For safe manual handling, 2 people are needed to install bed raisers.
- Your bed will need either 2 or 3 sets of bed raisers, depending on the number of feet that it has (2 feet per bed raiser).
- Check that the raisers are intact and that the wingnuts are in place.
- Put one raiser unit at the foot of the bed and loosen the wingnuts to adjust the bed raiser to the width of the bed feet.
- Lift the bed and place onto the supports, ensuring any bed casters sit within the raiser wells.
- Push the corner supports tight up against the bed and rotate them to get the best possible fit.
- Repeat for the opposite end of the bed and middle feet (if needed) and tighten the wingnuts to secure the raisers
