Ambulance patient transport can only be provided for patients who have a medical need and who cannot travel by any other means.

Ambulance staff are trained to care for patients during the journey to and from hospital.

A parent or responsible adult should accompany children under the age of 18. If you are an adult and require an escort for a medical or care need, you may be accompanied by a friend or relative however, this will need to be approved when you make your booking. Patients over the age of 18 who do not have capacity must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Patient Transport Assessment Line

Hospital transport is arranged by Patient Transport Assessment Line by phone; you will need to call the number below to request transport. A member of the Patient Transport Assessment Team will conduct a telephone assessment with you to determine your eligibility and then make any required bookings.

Once you have been assessed as eligible, for future appointments you will just need to call and book your transport. A full reassessment will be conducted for most patients every six months. It is recommended that, where possible, you call to book transport around 1 week in advance of your appointment.

Patient Transport Assessment Line: 0208 934 6770

The Patient Transport Assessment Line is open 10am to 12pm, and 2pm to 4pm Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays). There is a telephone queuing system in place, however, at times it can be busy. If you are unable to get through by telephone and your appointment is the next working day you can email khft.pts.kingstonhosp@nhs.net. Please include a telephone number in your email so the team can contact you.

If patient transport has been arranged to bring you into hospital, please ensure you are ready to travel two hours before your appointment time. You will receive a call ahead from HATS the working day before your appointment to confirm your appointment is still going ahead and again on the day of your appointment to provide an estimated time of arrival from the crew who will be transporting you. Please ensure when booking your transport that you provide an update to date contact number that can be used for both call aheads. If for any reason you will no longer be attending your appointment, please let us know so that we can avoid sending the ambulance on a wasted trip.
